Privacy Policy
Quire is a desktop Markdown editor that runs entirely on your own computer. It has no account system, no server of ours to talk to, and no analytics. This policy describes what that means in practice.
What we collect
Nothing. Quire does not collect, transmit or receive any personal information. There is no registration, no sign-in, no email address to provide, and no usage or crash telemetry of any kind.
Your documents
Your Markdown files stay exactly where you keep them, on your own disk.
Quire reads a folder you choose and writes your edits back to the same
files. It does not copy your documents anywhere, does not upload them, and
does not store their contents in a database. When you paste or drop an
image into a document, that image is written into an assets
folder beside it — still inside your own folder, and still on your own
disk. When you delete a file from
inside Quire it is moved to the Windows Recycle Bin, so it remains
recoverable through Windows itself.
What is stored on your device
Quire keeps a small preferences database and a log file in a folder named
.quire inside your user directory. Together they hold:
- your settings — theme, typeface, line width and the editor options you have turned on;
- the list of folders you have opened, so they can be offered again;
- which tabs were open in each folder, so a session can be restored;
- your chosen interface language;
- a count of how many times the app has been launched, used only to decide whether to ask you once for a Store rating;
- a log of application events, kept to help diagnose a problem on your own machine.
All of this stays on your device. None of it is sent anywhere, and none of it contains the text of your documents. Uninstalling Quire and deleting that folder removes it completely.
Network access
Quire does not require an internet connection and does not use one for any
of its features. It runs a small web server bound to your own machine
(127.0.0.1) purely so its interface can talk to its own
backend; this is not reachable from your network or from the internet.
The only time anything leaves the app is when you deliberately click a link — a support email address, or the Microsoft Store listing. In those cases the address is handed to Windows, which opens it in your own mail client or browser. Quire is not involved beyond that point.
Third parties
Quire contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking software. No data is shared with anyone, because none is collected.
Children
Quire is a general-purpose writing tool and is not directed at children. As it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
